With a keen eye for interesting buildings, I love nothing more than to photograph them at any given chance. The stranger the better. Wondering who created them, who lives in them, why they were positioned where they are and what materials have been use to build them. Developing a fascination with derelict buildings has led me down country lanes, gravel roads and road side stops, to places I wouldn’t normally go.
Here is a collection of my latest finds;
One of New Zealand’s oldest buildings. Built by a London-based Church Missionary Society in 1821.
York Bay, Eastbourne, Wellington. Architecurally designed house.
Mahina Bay, Eastboure, Wellington. Look at all the different shapes and sizes of windows. This house has been cleverly build nestled between a steep hill and the road. The other side of the road is a small rocky beach looking over the Wellington harbour to the CBD.
Derelict wooden villa (possibly constructed out of local Kauri Trees) on route to the Kaitaia in the Far North of New Zealand.
Kerikeri Homestead behind the Mission building. Newly completed renovations include copper drain piping and shingle roofing.
Derelict villa near Whangarei.
Everyone has their own likes and dislikes. Mine is the colour of duck egg blue. I just don’t understand it. The love of duck egg blue here extends from house, to roof, to garage and even the garden shed!
