Outdoor Shower: #LTIDreno

When my builder phoned up his supplier in England and said he wanted an outside shower sent up to Scotland, the response was of surprise.  “We’ve never sent an outside shower to Scotland before”, was the reply.

I laughed when I heard this and smiled at the thought of having a luxury that was not the norm.  Even more so when the outside shower was going to be a hot one not cold.

So why did I install a hot outside shower down the side of my house?

Two reasons, firstly for damage control.  When you live beside the beach and for 6 months of the year, you’re actually living and playing on the beach most days, sand gets everywhere.  An outside shower means running to the shower in a wet wetsuit and being able to strip off to your swimmy without one little grain of sand going into the house and most importanly into my new shower room.

Secondly, why the hell not?  We all as individuals need to be aware of what makes us happy.  What we like and what makes life fun for us, should be our pursuit.  For me, an outside shower, especially a hot one is such a lovely experience and I thoroughly enjoy every second I spend in it.

The shower faces west.  During these past summer months when the late afternoon sun is beaming down – the hottest part of the day in Scotland is around 4pm peak summer.  Feeling chilly from being thrown from my paddle board (attempting to surf SUP), or from just having a swim, we run from the car in our wet wetties and get into the shower and it is just seriously amazing.  The hot water coupled with the sun on my face, is a pure delight and I smile every time.

It has been money well spent.  I can’t recommend getting a hot (or cold) outside shower enough, if you live near the coast, loch, lake or river.  It’s a simple pleasure that’s guarenteed to make you smile.
