The Lets Colour Awards 2015

On Monday I attended the 3rd Lets Colour Awards sponsored by Dulux.  The Magazine Restaurant within the Serpentine Slacker Gallery, Kensington Gardens, London was host to revealing who the upcoming movers and shakers were in the world of colour.

Categories included; the best use of colour in homes & interiors, fashion & beauty, colour innovation in technology & design, the arts, as well as contribution to colour, the young designer of the year and the big category of the night being the Colour Moment of the Year.

As voted by the public (myself included) the Colour Moment of the Year went deservedly to
‘Blood Swept Lands of Seas of Red’.  This installation of red poppies attracted over 5 million visitors to the Tower of London and was one of the most talked about subjects surrounding Remembrance Day.  Created by artist Paul Cummins and installation designed by Tom Piper, 888,246 red ceramic poppies were planted in the Tower’s Moat, each poppy representing every British and Colonial fatality in the Great War.

A highlight of the evening was the Young Designer Category.  The winner Kit Miles an Interior Textiles and Wallpaper Designer, has a unique style with colour.  His original designs are made from scratch in his studio in London Bridge.  Being that I’m a huge fan of anything to do with textiles it was wonderful to see his work recognised by this award.  Definitely a ‘one to watch’ for the future.

Kit Miles receives his award from Content Consultant and Design Journalist, Katie Treggiden who runs the fantastic blog Confessions of a Design Geek.  I caught up with Katie that evening and I have to say she is equally as lovely and jolly as her blog!

Paint installation by Dulux.  The colours merging together made the most beautiful natural pattern.

The canapes, food and drinks during the evening were simply stunning.  K&K London Ltd produced nibbles beyond perfection.  Spoons of aged sirloin and crispy shallots, melted in my mouth and bowls of Duck and Israeli Couscous were sensational with a glass of Alsace, Pinot Blanc.

A big thank you to Dulux, Mischief PR and The Magazine Restaurant for such as fabulous evening.
